Tools for Heart-Centered Planning

Estate planning is more than just legal documents. It’s about ensuring your values and wishes are honored. Let’s explore tools that facilitate this heart-centered approach.

Mediation and Circle Keeping for Harmony

Estate planning can bring sensitive topics to light. Mediation and circle keeping are tools that promote understanding and harmony.

Consider a family meeting where emotions run high and conflicts arise. A mediator can facilitate discussions, neutrally, ensuring everyone feels heard. This approach helps to resolve conflicts, builds stronger relationships and typically ends up with an agreement or plan of action.

Circle keeping, on the other hand, an approach rooted in indigenous practices, involves gathering in a respectful, inclusive manner. It’s a space for sharing, healing, and planning together. This method supports families in navigating estate planning with grace and empathy. As a Circle Keeper, I’m not neutral in the same way as when I mediate, rather I’m partial to see a particular outcome: everyone contributes, feels understood and comes away feeling that they have contributed towards the family’s next steps.

By embracing these strategies, you can foster conversation and relationship with your family that truly reflects your values and protects what matters most to you.
